Threat of earthquake is less visible in Bangladesh. But the country lies on seismically active Indian Plate. Some research suggests that earthquake up to magnitude 7.5 is possible here. The National Plan on Disaster Management (2010-2015) includes Earthquake Management Plan and a National Earthquake Contingency Plan. These plans lack on national strategy and institutional structure to mitigate risks of urban earthquake. Government of Bangladesh has received a Credit from the International Development Association (IDA) (The World Bank) towards the Urban Resilience Project (URP) and intends to apply part of it in “Development of Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning Practice” that represents the second phase of a multi-phase DRM program to build institutional capacity to mitigate the impact of earthquake in the rapidly urbanizing cities of Bangladesh. The World Bank along with the Government intends to initiate studies for urban resilience, reducing risks in the built environment of Dhaka a
