In recent decades, Bangladesh has witnessed a significant surge in its urban population, leading to challenges in managing urban areas effectively. The rapid urbanization has resulted in a growing homeless population, with slums and squatter settlements becoming integral aspects of urban life. Conversely, rural areas in the country have received limited attention from the government and other stakeholders, especially concerning their physical development. The current government has prioritized rural development with the slogan Village will be Town. Embracing the concept of My Village My Town (Amar Gram, Amar Shohor) outlined in the 2018 Election Manifesto, the government is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in both urban and rural areas of Bangladesh. The goal is to bring urban amenities and facilities to villages, including modern transport infrastructure, access to healthcare and education, safe drinking water, sanitation, improved electricity and fuel supply
