Objective of the project is to improve water supply, sewerage disposal, sanitation and storm water drainage facilities in Dhaka City. The project plans, among other improvements, to rehabilitate the existing sewer systems, storm water drains and natural retention reservoirs. These activities will raise social safeguard issues involving displacement of squatters and encroachers from DWASA lands and acquisition of additional lands from private ownership. It is observed that the banks of most storm water drainage canals in the city are occupied by squatters and encroachers that will be affected by the improvement activities. With this end in view the consultant has been engaged to carry out assessment of social risks and impacts that are likely to be caused by the proposed project activities, working with project team suggest appropriate changes in design to avoid or minimize adverse impacts through improvement selection and design and propose suitable mitigation measures including resett
